Killer song from my college days. I was heavy into the REM sound and this fit the bill. Butch Vig, the drummer later became a huge producers as well as a member of Garbage.

Galaxie 500 - Blue Thunder
Perfect song for those melancholy moments. I remember buying this LP new and just being mesmerized by the sound. Never saw them live but I believe they would have been perfect on the My Blood Valentine, Buffalo Tom, Yo La Tengo show I went to. This group should be celebrated by the masses!

New Bomb Turks - Last Long Fight
I anticipate this blog being a slow work in process due to the time I have to spend. I was never a huge fan of the New Bomb Turks but I have to say this song, the "B" side, is one of my absolute favorites. At one time, I use to buy everything on Sympathy for The Record Industry (SFTRI) and this was such a joy discovery.

Drive By Truckers - Nine Bullets
I had to revise the background of my site due to the slowness of opening and freezing of the site. I will continue to fiddle with it when I have time, which I don't really have right now due to school. For tonight's post, I debated the upload of this single due to the recent violent acts in Arizona and then California today. But ultimately I am uploading it as I think there is a strong message behind this song. Listen to it and make your conclusion. My conclusion is that this person chooses an irrational manner (violence) to deal with issues. Yes, this is a simplistic view but it relates to the irrational acts making news. I believe our country needs more awareness to mental health needs, and we need to spend more money on Mental Health intervention. Just read the President Commission on Mental Health from July 2003 www.mentalhealthcommission.gov as well as the NAIM reports http://www.nami.org/ regarding MH....Educate yourself and advocate for those in need.

Bailter Space - X
I became a huge fan of the New Zealand bands during the 80's and 90s. If you become a follower of my blog you will eventually notice quite a few bands, such as the Chills, Bats, Cakekitchen, ect will be featured. I will start the Kiwi explosion with Bailter Space. I found out about this powerful heavy band and bought this vinyl lp new.
